Rapper Tory Lanez was stabbed multiple times in a California prison while serving a 10-year sentence.

Rapper Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was hospitalized Monday morning after being stabbed multiple times by another inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Lanez, 32, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion.

The attack occurred around 7:20 a.m. during morning yard time. According to prison officials, Lanez sustained 14 stab wounds, including injuries to his back, torso, head, and face, leading to the collapse of both lungs. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Bakersfield, where he was initially placed on a breathing apparatus. As of Monday evening, Lanez is breathing independently and reported to be in stable condition.

An Instagram post from Lanez's account stated, "Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through."

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) confirmed the incident but did not release the names of those involved, citing privacy and security policies. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation by the prison's internal team and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.

Lanez was convicted in December 2022 on three felony charges related to the July 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete. She testified that Lanez shot her feet and shouted at her to dance during an altercation. Bullet fragments had to be surgically removed from both of her feet.

In January 2025, a judge granted Megan a five-year restraining order against Lanez, valid through January 2030, due to ongoing concerns about harassment that allegedly continued during Lanez’s incarceration.

Lanez is eligible for parole in 2029. Despite his incarceration, he has continued to work on music, recently announcing the completion of a new album expected to release in summer 2025.
