Los Angeles — Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X has been released from jail after posting $75,000 bail, following his arrest last week on charges stemming from an unusual and chaotic incident on Ventura Boulevard.
The rapper, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was taken into custody on August 21 after police responded to reports of a possible drug overdose. Authorities say he was walking in the street wearing only underwear and cowboy boots when he allegedly rushed at officers, leading to a physical altercation. After being evaluated at a hospital, he was booked on multiple charges.
On August 25, Lil Nas X appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to four felony counts, including three charges of battery with injury to a police officer and one charge of resisting an executive officer. Prosecutors said the incident resulted in injuries to several officers, though details on the extent of those injuries have not been released.
The judge granted his release on bond under strict conditions. The court ordered the rapper to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week and to undergo drug treatment as part of his bail agreement. His next court date, a preliminary hearing, is scheduled for September 15.
If convicted, Lil Nas X could face up to five years in state prison. His attorney, Christy O’Connor, stressed that the artist has no prior criminal record and called the incident “an aberration in his life.”
The arrest and release of Lil Nas X has sparked widespread discussion across social media, with fans expressing both concern for his well-being and support for his music career. As the case moves forward, all eyes will remain on the upcoming court proceedings that could determine the trajectory of one of hip-hop’s most recognizable stars.
