Actor Files $260 Million Lawsuit Against Tyler Perry Alleging Sexual Harassment and Assault

Updated: Jun 20

ATLANTA, GA — Tyler Perry, Film Producer, Director, and one of Hollywood’s most powerful creators and entrepreneurs, is facing serious allegations after actor Derek Dixon filed a $260 million lawsuit accusing Perry of sexual harassment, gender-based workplace violence, and retaliation during their time working together on BET’s The Oval and Ruthless.

The lawsuit, filed on June 13, 2025, in Georgia state court, outlines multiple alleged incidents between 2020 and 2021 in which Perry—described in the complaint as wielding "complete authority" over his productions—used his position to initiate unwanted sexual contact with Dixon. The accusations include groping, exposing private parts, and forcibly removing the actor’s underwear at both Perry’s home and office.

“I felt trapped and powerless,” Dixon stated in the suit. “Refusing him meant risking everything I had worked for.”

According to the complaint, the incidents began in early 2020 and continued into 2021, with Perry allegedly promising career advancement in exchange for sexual compliance. After Dixon resisted and later reported the behavior, he claims he was blackballed, cut from opportunities, and faced “soul-crushing” retaliation. The actor says he eventually filed a report with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in 2024 and left The Oval shortly thereafter.

Allegations at a Glance:

  • Multiple instances of unwanted sexual advances.

  • Claims of emotional distress, anxiety, depression, and PTSD resulting from the alleged abuse.

  • Accusations of retaliation and career sabotage after rejecting Perry’s advances.

  • Alleged pattern of misconduct tied to Perry’s unchecked control within his production studio.

Perry's Legal Response

Tyler Perry’s legal team has denied all allegations, calling the lawsuit a "shakedown attempt" and a “fraudulent scheme” designed to damage his name and legacy.

In a brief statement, Perry’s representatives said,

“These claims are entirely false, malicious, and will be addressed aggressively in court.”

Industry Reactions

While the entertainment industry has not yet issued a unified response, the lawsuit has already reignited conversations around power dynamics, sexual abuse in Hollywood, and the protections (or lack thereof) for those working within media empires led by single, powerful figures.

Perry, known for his rise from homelessness to billionaire status and ownership of one of the largest Black-owned studios in the U.S., has long been admired for his inspirational journey and philanthropic efforts. These allegations, however, may mark a major turning point in his public and professional narrative.
