London, United Kingdom — Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Chris Brown has been cleared of all assault allegations stemming from a legal case in the United Kingdom, following months of speculation and legal proceedings that attracted international media attention.
The case, which involved claims made by a woman who alleged that Brown assaulted her after a private event in London in early 2023, has officially concluded with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) determining that there was "insufficient evidence to proceed with a formal charge."
The incident reportedly took place in May 2023 at a rented property in central London where Brown was staying following a sold-out concert. The woman, who remains unnamed for legal reasons, claimed she was attacked during a late-night gathering. Brown was not arrested at the time but was brought in for questioning when he returned to the UK later that year.
Brown consistently denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that the encounter was consensual and that no violence occurred. His legal team cooperated with investigators, submitting statements, security footage, and witness accounts that ultimately contradicted the allegation
In a statement released on June 19, 2025, the Southwark Crown Court confirmed that after a comprehensive investigation, the CPS found no substantial evidence to bring the case to trial. The judge overseeing the matter, The Honorable Justice Rachel Elms, emphasized the importance of due process and the burden of proof in such high-profile allegations.
“There is insufficient legal basis to continue with prosecution. The court acknowledges the sensitivity of the claims but must remain guided by the evidence presented,” said Judge Elms.
Chris Brown released a brief statement via his legal representative following the dismissal:
“I’m grateful this matter is behind me. I’ve always respected the law and cooperated fully. Thank you to my legal team and fans for their continued support.”
The artist has since resumed his European tour and is expected to perform in Manchester and Paris in the coming weeks.
