Jackson, Mississippi (September 9, 2025) — A speaking engagement featuring comedian and commentator Charleston White at Tougaloo College ended abruptly Tuesday after a heated confrontation with students.
The event, held on the campus of the historically Black college, quickly devolved into conflict when White became embroiled in an argument with attendees. In video footage now circulating widely on social media, White is seen growing increasingly agitated before declaring, “I don’t give a damn about no HBCU, I went to a white school.”
The remark drew outrage from the audience, and several students reportedly followed White as he stormed out of the venue. Clips posted online including one YouTube reel titled “Charleston White Goes Off at HBCU Tougaloo College ‘F** a Black College and F*** My People’”* capture the intensity of the exchange.
White, who is known for his provocative style and often incendiary commentary, has long drawn both supporters and critics. While he has built a following as a motivational speaker and internet personality, his confrontational approach has also made him a controversial figure.
Tuesday’s incident at Tougaloo, one of the nation’s most respected historically Black colleges, has sparked broad discussion online. Many viewers condemned
White’s remarks as disrespectful to HBCUs and their legacy, while others argued that his appearance was consistent with his reputation for stirring debate.
PrimeTimer, which covered the fallout, noted bluntly: “Charleston White’s recent speaking engagement at a HBCU ended when the comedian left in anger.”
Neither Tougaloo College officials nor White have issued an official statement in response to the incident.
