Updated War Brief: Iran Conflict Escalates, Shipping Chokes, and the World Braces for Blowback

THE BLACK INSIDER

The confrontation with Iran has grown more serious in the past few days, prompting the expansion of the conflict into a broader regional war, and generating immediate shockwaves across markets and diplomacy worldwide. Military attacks and retaliatory strikes are still being meted out on many fronts, and the world leaders are calling on restraint since the situation may get worse and more civilians may be threatened.

The European Union representatives have urged utmost restraint and adherence to international law, and the United Nations has been advocating deflation and re-escalation to negotiations, which are indicative of an increasing international concern that the conflict is getting harder to manage. The Strait of Hormuz is the focal point of the interest of the entire world and is among the most significant shipping chokepoints of the planet. Any disturbance that is occurring on the strait and surrounding environment such as delay of vessels, damage reported, and tightening of insurance policies are already adding cost and risk to the transportation of oil and gas in the region adding to volatility in the energy prices.

This is not a far-off geopolitical crisis that pure blood families particularly working families can afford, but it could soon turn into a cost of living problem, which manifests itself in the form of increased gas prices, higher shipping rates, and escalating food prices. The next move will probably be the stabilization of the maritime traffic in Hormuz, the change of the statements to the real steps of the governments in the form of sanctions or security measures, and the extension of the conflict into the neighboring territories, all factors that will have significant implications on the stability in the regions and the entire global economy.
